An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

We still believe that most of the showers during the day today will remain north of here, basically along and north of U.S. 72. Otherwise, today will be mild and breezy with mixed sun and clouds, and a high well up in the 70s. Then, we will bring in a chance of a few showers and thunderstorms tonight and tomorrow with our weakening front drifting down into the north-central part of our state. The 00Z NAM prints 0.34″ for Birmingham, which sounds around right. No wash-out tomorrow, and no severe weather is expected; just keep in mind we will have a few passing showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Due to the scattered nature of the showers, we can’t tell you exactly when and where it will rain, but a shower is possible anytime from 6:00 p.m. tonight through midnight tomorrow night.

The models are trending a little wetter on Sunday, and a wedge still shows up, meaning the high will be close to 60 near the Georgia border in the wedge, while West Alabama will be closer to 70. Once again, no heavy, all-day rain on Sunday, but we will have to maintain a chance of showers.

NEXT WEEK: Not much change in our thinking next week. Two chances for rain; one on Tuesday, and the other on Friday. On our Tuesday system, the GFS takes the upper support well to the north of Alabama, so major severe weather problems are not expected, and the rain probably won’t be all that heavy. The Friday system looks a little wetter, but we need to get the first one out of here before we can really focus on that one. Lets hope that one of them does bring some good rain since our rain deficit for the year is now over 2 and a half inches (for Birmingham).

VOODOO LAND: I really don’t like the look of the GFS in the April 5-15 time frame… it keeps the main band of westerlies well to the north of here, and no big rain events are showing up.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.

I have a speech at midday out in Clay… I will be speaking to some fire and rescue folks from Jefferson County. I will be back in the office by early afternoon and the next Weather Xtreme video should be posted by 3:30 or so. Enjoy the day!
