A Few Showers Over The Weekend

**No afternoon video today; I have spent the afternoon working on a station project**

WEEKEND SHOWERS: Scattered showers and possibly a few thunderstorms will continue across Alabama tonight and tomorrow as a weakening front approaches from the north. The 12Z NAM is printing only 0.30″ for Birmingham… most spots will see somewhere between 0.25″ and 0.40″ through tomorrow night. No wash-out, no really heavy rain, and no significant chance of severe weather, just a few passing showers.

Looks like a large part of Sunday will be dry, although a stray shower will be possible in a few spots. The wedge will set up across East Alabama; highs on Sunday will range from near 70 along the Mississippi border, to 60 near the Georgia border.

NEXT WEEK: The 12Z GFS continues the trend toward a weaker system Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night. There will be a few showers and storms around with a weakening front, but the upper support will pass well to the north of Alabama, and heavy rain or severe weather looks very unlikely. The second system at the end of the week on Friday seems to have a little more promise for significant rain, but we need to get the Tuesday system out of here before we can feel too confident on how to handle the Friday system.

VOODOO LAND: The 12Z GFS also continue the trend of keeping the major rain producing systems north of Alabama in the April 5 to 15 time frame. Not good for a state trying to recover from a major drought.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.

We will get back to the regular two a day videos Monday… Brian will have the Weather Xtreme videos here tomorrow and Sunday. Thanks to all of the Center Point fire fighters who allowed me to speak to them this morning… and a special thanks to the great Alabama weather legend, J.B. Elliott, for dropping by. I won’t tell you how much BBQ he consumed, but it was impressive. He sucked down a bunch of doughnuts as well.

Have a great weekend!
