RECORD LOW HIGHS: The 2:00 temperature at Tuscaloosa was only 73 degrees… sure looks like it will be a record low maximum temperature there today… the current record low “high” is 83. Along with that cool 73 degrees clouds are hanging over the Druid City and light rain is falling.

Similar conditions are seen all across the northern half of the state… Anniston is barely out of the 70s with 81 degrees at 2:00. The sky is cloudy, and there are large areas of rain with embedded heavy downpours. Check out the shelf cloud image below moving into downtown Anniston… from @KaleysMom71311

TOMORROW AND THE WEEKEND: Still looks like scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms tomorrow and Saturday as a weakness in the upper flow/cold air aloft remains over the Deep South, along with a very deep layer of tropical moisture and a stalled front just north of here. The sky will be cloudy at times, and the high should be in the 86 to 90 degree range both days. By Sunday, the air aloft should be a bit warmer, meaning showers and storms will be a little more widely scattered, and we should reach the low 90s with a partly sunny sky.

NEXT WEEK: For now it looks fairly routine summer weather… highs in the low to mid 90s, partly sunny days, and the risk of scattered, mostly afternoon and evening shower and thunderstorms. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Nothing out of the ordinary… we project about 6 to 8 hours of sunshine each day on the Gulf Coast from Panama City west to Gulf Shores through the weekend, with the daily risk of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Afternoon highs will be in the 86 to 89 degree range on the immediate coast, and sea water temperatures remain in the mid 80s.

TROPICS: The Atlantic basin remains very quiet, and tropical storm formation is not expected through the weekend.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
