Heavy Rain in Tuscaloosa

| August 7, 2012 @ 2:10 pm

Slow moving storms in Tuscaloosa County are dumping torrential rains.

There are reports of flooding on the UA campus. Flooding is reported by the Tuscaloosa News building. 7th street and 28th Avenue water is up to a foot high on houses.

Radar estimates indicates 2-3 inches of rain in the past hour centered around the campus (shown in the right side image of the graphic). As much as 3.5 inches may have fallen since the rain began.

The heaviest rain has shifted south of I-59, but moderate rain continues south of University Blvd. It will gradually decrease from the north, but flooding problems will persist for some time.

Be careful of the lightning as well.

Another example of the how rainfall totals will vary over a short distance, only 0.26 inches at the Tuscaloosa Airport.
