Wow! I stepped out this morning BEFORE looking at the thermometer reading! As Hannibal Smith used to say on the old A-Team show, modified slightly, I love it when a forecast [originally plan] comes together!! Gosh, it feels great with a low of 57 at my house and humidity levels way down. AS I noted yesterday, we have not seen a temperature in the 50s in Birmingham since June 2nd.

Skywatcher Vic Bell in Black Creek in Northeast Alabama reported a low of 52 this morning. I would not be surprised if Vic were to end up with a low around 48 or 49 tomorrow morning.

The cold front that moved through Alabama yesterday has moved well out into the Gulf of Mexico allowing a real air mass change to occur for Central Alabama. The forecast is pretty straight forward for the upcoming week with cool temperatures for a couple of days and then a slight warm up with a combination of surface high pressure and an upper ridge. It appears likely that we may be setting up for a wedge pattern for the latter half of the week as the surface high moves across the Mid-Atlantic states. We’ll need to watch for that scenario which could have an impact on temperatures during the latter half of the week.

For now, the next system has been pushed back a little with a strong trough coming across the North Central US on Saturday and Sunday. The current projected pattern would produce only isolated showers for Saturday and Sunday followed by another round of cool, dry air to start week two. But in a fairly typical occurrence, the GFS has flipped with a less cool pattern for the end of September.

I noted the moderate risk of severe weather in New England on the SPC outlook yesterday. Three tornadoes were reported in New York City with nearly 300 reports of wind damage. So the weather was quite active from northern Virginia into New York and the New England states.
