NICE: If you enjoyed the weather yesterday, you will love it today. We are starting the morning with temperatures in the 50s; John Talbot, our Skywatcher in the Concord/Hueytown area west of Birmingham… reports 53 degrees as I write this shortly before sunrise. Valley Head, Fort Payne, and Russellville are all showing 52.

Expect a day of blue sky and sunshine, low humidity, and a high between 80 and 84 degrees. Doesn’t get much better in early September. Keep in mind the hottest temperature on record in Alabama was recorded on September 5, 1925 (112 degrees in Centreville), so it can be very hot this time of the year.

THE DAYS AHEAD: Not much change through the week. Mostly sunny warm days, clear pleasant nights, and low humidity through Thursday. We might consider a slight risk of a shower Friday as moisture levels begin to rise, but even then I think most of Alabama will be dry.

WEEKEND PREVIEW: Model consistency has not been very good, but an approaching short wave along with higher moisture levels will mean some risk of scattered showers and storms both Saturday and Sunday. For now we don’t expect the rain to be continuous, and not really widespread, but clearly there will be a threat of some rain both days. Highs will remain generally in the low to mid 80s with a mix of sun and clouds both days.

TROPICS: Tropical Storm Leslie is headed for Newfoundland tomorrow as it recurves northeast, and Hurricane Michael remains in the middle of the Atlantic, no threat to any land area. A new wave in the East Atlantic has a high chance of becoming a tropical storm, and even a hurricane in coming days (the name will be Nadine), but will also recurve and won’t be an issue to the U.S.

AT THE BEACH: Great weather on the Alabama/Northwest Florida coast through Wednesday with sunny days and clear highs. A few scattered showers or storms could show by Friday and the weekend, but not a wash-out. Highs will be in the 80s; the sea water temperature this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 81 degrees.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. We will record this week’s show tonight at 8:30 p.m. CDT. You can watch here.
