QUIET AFTERNOON: We have had a layer of scattered mid level clouds over the state much of the day, but the low levels are very dry, and the day has been pleasant. Temperatures are mostly in the low to mid 80s at mid-afternoon.

REST OF THE WEEK: Our weather looks rain-free tomorrow and Thursday, with partly to mostly sunny days and highs in the mid 80s. Then, on Friday, a weak front tries to approach from the northwest, but with only limited moisture and upper support will just mention a small risk of a shower or storm late Friday or Friday night for now. Still don’t think rain will be a really big issues for the high school football games Friday night.

WEEKEND FORECAST: The 12Z runs have come in much drier for Saturday, basically suggesting a 10 percent chance or less of a shower for any one given spot during the day with the main energy from an upper trough passing far to the north of Alabama, and a fairly stable airmass in place here. We will trend in that direction in our forecast.

New runs bring in an upper feature with a much better chance of showers and storms Sunday, and possibly into part of the day Monday. Confidence is low, but we will lean in this direction in the forecast. Bottom line is that now Saturday looks fairly dry, with a higher chance of rain Sunday. Stay tuned.

NEXT WEEK: Interesting forecast scenario on the GFS; it shows a cold front moving in here around mid-week, with some type of tropical low forming on the front in the western Gulf, then moving up this way with potential for widespread rain toward the end of the week. Just a possibility for now, and something to watch. See the Weather Xtreme video for more details.

TROPICS: Leslie is becoming post-tropical in the North Atlantic, and Micheal is fizzing out over the Central Atlantic. Newly formed Tropical Depression 14 is in the Atlantic well east of the Leeward Islands, but this will recurve in the open Atlantic well before reaching the U.S. See the Weather Xtreme video for all the graphics.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes.
