PLEASANT SEPTEMBER WEATHER: Our weather won’t change very much today; expect a good supply of sunshine with a high in the mid 80s the low level air stays dry across the great state of Alabama. Pretty much the same story tomorrow and Friday, although we will mention a slight risk of a shower Friday afternoon with a surface front just northwest of Alabama. The front will have no upper support, and will stall and dissipate before having much impact on our weather.

THE WEEKEND: The chance of any one spot seeing a shower Saturday is only about one in ten, and the high will remain in the mid 80s. Then, we expect to see an increase in the number of showers and storms Sunday afternoon, Sunday night, and possibly into Monday as a short wave over Texas moves in from the west. Don’t think it will be a really big rain event, but no doubt it should rain at times with a little thunder possible.

NEXT WEEK: The 00Z GFS continues to show a deep, long wave upper trough forming over the eastern half of the nation by the middle of next week. If this solution is correct, it should push a significant cold front through here Wednesday, followed by perhaps the coolest air so far this meteorological fall. Just might get us down in the 40s toward the end of next week. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

TROPICS: Tropical Storm Nadine has formed in the Central Atlantic; it is expected to become a hurricane, but this one, like so many others this year, will recurve harmlessly into the open Atlantic well before getting close to the U.S.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Looks like the sky will be mostly clear for the high school games tomorrow night and Friday night. Temperatures will be mostly in the upper 70s both nights during the games.

Saturday, Auburn will host Louisiana-Monroe at Jordan-Hare Stadium (11:00 a.m. kickoff). The sky will be partly sunny, and I think it is safe to drop any mention of showers for the game. Temperatures will rise from near 78 at kickoff to around 83 by the final whistle. Alabama will be on the road… they take on the Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville at 2:30; the sky will be cloudy at times, and a brief passing shower or storm is possible during the game. Temperatures will be in the mid 70s. UAB plays South Carolina in Columbia Saturday evening (6:00 kickoff); the sky should be mostly fair with temperatures falling from the low 80s at kickoff into the mid 70s by the fourth quarter.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
