SCATTERED CLOUDS: We are enjoying another very pleasant mid-September day across Alabama. Sunshine through scattered clouds, with temperatures generally in the low 80s. Once again model MOS products were too warm today; MOS has had a warm bias for many months. Our friends up in the Tennessee Valley are only in the upper 70s. Nothing on radar over the northern half of the state; we do note a little light rain between Dauphin Island and Fort Morgan on the Alabama Gulf Coast.

TOMORROW/FRIDAY/SATURDAY: I think we can safely remove the mention of showers on these three days. A cold front northwest of Alabama will fizzle out before reaching us, and with limited moisture and hardly any dynamic lift I just don’t see any significant threat of rain.

SUNDAY/MONDAY: A disturbance now over West Texas will approach from the west, and will bring a decent chance of showers, and possibly a thunderstorm, late Sunday, Sunday night, and Monday. Rain amounts should be generally 1/2 inch or less, and the rain won’t be continuous.

LATER NEXT WEEK: A full latitude upper trough is expected to push a rather robust cold front through Alabama Tuesday night; we will have a chance of showers Tuesday ahead of the front, followed by sharply cooler air for the latter half of the week. The 12Z GFS is not as aggressive with the cold air push and trough, but other runs have suggested we might visit the 40s one morning late next week. We will keep an eye on trends.

Out in the magical land of voodoo, another cold shot shows up toward the end of the month that should get us in the 40s as well if by chance it verifies.

TROPICS: Tropical Storm Nadine in the Central Atlantic is expected to become Hurricane Nadine within 12 hours, but it will recurve harmlessly into the open Atlantic and is no threat to land.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: The sky will be mostly clear for the high school games tomorrow night and Friday night. Temperatures will be mostly in the upper 70s both nights during the games.

Saturday, Auburn will host Louisiana-Monroe at Jordan-Hare Stadium (11:00 a.m. kickoff). The sky will be partly sunny, and I think it is safe to drop any mention of showers for the game. Temperatures will rise from near 78 at kickoff to around 83 by the final whistle. Alabama will be on the road… they take on the Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville at 2:30; the sky will be cloudy at times, and a brief passing shower or storm is possible during the game. Temperatures will be in the mid 70s. UAB plays South Carolina in Columbia Saturday evening (6:00 kickoff); the sky should be mostly fair with temperatures falling from the low 80s at kickoff into the mid 70s by the fourth quarter.
