Dry Through Saturday

CALM WEATHER CONTINUES: Our weather won’t change much through the beginning of the weekend; we project partly sunny days and fair nights through Saturday as the active weather stays north and west of our state. Afternoon highs will hold in the mid 80s, and the humidity will remain relatively low.
SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY: A disturbance over Texas will approach by Sunday, and we will introduce the chance of showers Sunday afternoon, becoming more likely Sunday night into Monday. Rain amounts should be generally one-half inch or less, and while some thunder could be involved, severe weather doesn’t look likely. We will hang on to the risk of showers Tuesday as a strong cold front approaches from the northwest.
LATTER PART OF NEXT WEEK: A long wave upper trough will move over the eastern U.S., pushing a nice surge of cool, dry air down into Alabama beginning Wednesday. For now it looks like highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s over the latter half of the week, but the model MOS products have had a warm bias for many months, and I would not be shocked if a number of places over North Alabama see lows in the 40s by Thursday morning of next week. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: The sky will be mostly clear for the high school games tonight and tomorrow night. Temperatures will be mostly in the upper 70s both nights during the games.
Saturday, Auburn will host Louisiana-Monroe at Jordan-Hare Stadium (11:00 a.m. kickoff). The sky will be partly sunny with temperatures rising from near 78 at kickoff to around 83 by the final whistle. Alabama will be on the road… they take on the Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville at 2:30; the sky will be cloudy at times, and a brief passing shower or storm is possible during the game. Temperatures will be in the mid 70s. UAB plays South Carolina in Columbia Saturday evening (6:00 kickoff); the sky should be mostly fair with temperatures falling from the low 80s at kickoff into the mid 70s by the fourth quarter.
TROPICS: Tropical Storm Nadine in the Central Atlantic is expected to become a hurricane today, but it will recurve harmlessly over the open Atlantic, and is no threat to land.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
