QUIET WEATHER PATTERN: The summer of 2012 will go out like a lamb for much of the nation as dry, continental air is spread out over a large area. Here in Alabama, we expect sunny pleasant days and fair cool nights through the weekend. Makes it very easy on us in the weather business; we just have to figure out the highs and lows.

THIS MORNING: Very chilly. Some observations right before sunup…

Haleyville 45
Black Creek (just northeast of Gadsden) 45
Russellville 45
Courtland 46
Concord 46
Coker 48
Fort Payne 48
Valley Head 48
Decatur 48
Birmingham 51

Today’s high will be close to 80, and we reach the mid 80s tomorrow. The humidity levels will remain low.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Mid 80s are likely Saturday, but a fresh surge of cooler air arrives Sunday, which will knock highs back into the 70s. A good chance we visit the upper 40s again by early next week. Expect a good supply of sunshine both days.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Great weather for high school football games tonight and tomorrow night; the sky will be clear with temperatures falling through the 70s.

Saturday, Alabama will host Florida Atlantic at 4:00 p.m. The sky will be clear; temperatures will fall from near 83 degrees at kickoff into the 70s by the fourth quarter. Auburn will host LSU at 6:00; clear weather is the story at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The temperatures will fall from near 80 degrees at kickoff to the upper 60s by the final whistle.

UAB has another tough assignment; they will travel to Columbus to play Ohio State Saturday (11:00 a.m. kickoff). There is a small risk of a shower during the first quarter of the game, otherwise the day will be mostly cloudy with temperatures in the mid 60s during the game.

AT THE BEACH: Delightful weather continues on the coast from Panama City west to Gulf Shores through the weekend, with sunny days and fair nights. Highs will generally be in the mid 80s.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
