FANTASTIC FALL DAY: Doesn’t get much better… after a chilly start, temperatures are generally in the 70s this afternoon across the great state of Alabama; Birmingham reports 74 degrees with a dewpoint of 43 at 2:00.

We note the coldest spots in our state this morning were Fort Payne, in DeKalb County, and Black Creek, in Etowah County, with 37 degrees. Birmingham’s official low was 48… still well above the record low of 41 on this date set in 1990.

WARMER DAYS: Keep in mind we should be in the 80s, even here in late September, and we will indeed warm up in the days ahead. We will be in the low 80s tomorrow, followed by mid 80s Wednesday through Friday. We might see a few showers northwest of Alabama tomorrow, but our weather looks generally dry through Thursday.

We will probably mention a small risk of a shower here Friday, but widespread rain is not expected.

OUR WEEKEND: The 12Z GFS is a little more aggressive with rain for Saturday with an approaching cold front/upper trough. I still don’t think it rains all day, and the rain probably won’t be too heavy, but no doubt there will be a chance of showers Saturday, and maybe even some thunder in spots. Then, Sunday looks nice with a good supply of sunshine, lower humidity, and highs dropping back into the 70s.

Dry and pleasant weather will continue into next week as October begins.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Looks like a great week on the coast from Panama City west to Gulf Shores, with mostly sunny days and fair nights through Thursday; just a small risk of a shower Friday. Highs will remain in the 80s.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. We will record tonight’s episode at 8:30 p.m. CDT… you can watch live here.
