COLD AIR SO FAR: Amazing to watch the weather up north today. Lots of snow over parts of North Dakota and Minnesota with strong winds almost creating blizzard conditions near the Canadian border. And, the coldest air so far this season continues marching southward. The leading edge of the chilly air is near Kansas City, Oklahoma City, and Midland/Odessa, Texas. At 3:00 p.m. CDT Warroad, Minnesota was reporting 34 degrees with snow falling and strong northwest winds.

THE ALABAMA STORY: Temperatures are mostly in the upper 70s and low 80s this afternoon across the great state of Alabama with a good supply of sunshine. We should be in the low 80s tomorrow with mostly sunny weather continuing.

OUR WEEKEND: We will see a slow increase in cloud cover Saturday ahead of the Polar front, but the day should be dry with a high between 77 and 80 degrees. The front should slip through the state mostly in dry fashion Saturday night; for now we will mention only a small risk of a shower along the front. We do note the NAM is more aggressive with showers Saturday night; we will keep an eye on that model, but it sure looks like low level moisture will be pretty limited, and rain amounts will be light and spotty. The 12Z runs suggest if we see showers, they will come from about 4:00 p.m. Saturday through 4:00 a.m. Sunday

Sunday will be a breezy and very cool early October day. We will struggle to reach the mid 60s with a cool north breeze. And, by daybreak Monday, we should be in the 37 to 44 degree range across North Alabama. You will need a light jacket.

NEXT WEEK: Looks great. Sunny pleasant days, clear chilly nights. A fresh surge of cool air arrives Thursday; the front should pass through in dry fashion Wednesday night. See the Weather Xtreme video for the graphics and details.

TROPICS: Scroll down to the post below this one and you will see that Nadine is no more… the long, odd journey has ended in the East Atlantic. The longevity puts Nadine in the record books. Tropical Storm Oscar in the Central Atlantic is ill defined and should dissipate tomorrow.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: The sky will be mostly clear for high school football games across Alabama tonight and tomorrow night with temperatures falling from the 70s at kickoff into the 60s by the second half.

Saturday, Auburn will host Arkansas at Jordan-Hare Stadium (11:00 a.m. kickoff); the sky will be partly sunny with temperatures rising from 75 degrees at kickoff to the upper70s by the second half. UAB will host Southeast Louisiana Saturday at 2:00 at Legion Field; the sky will be partly sunny with a kickoff temperature near 78 degrees; the mercury will fall into the low 70s by the fourth quarter. And, that forecast works for the Samford/The Citadel game Saturday, which also kicks off at 2:00. Any showers along the Polar front should in in here after these games are over.
