The Friday morning edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes:

Welcome world. Drudge linked to the blog last night after I wrote the piece on the “Weather Channel Mess”… all that traffic has things running very slowly this morning; when the link goes away the traffic will settle down and the response should be back to normal. My e-mail inbox is overflowing this morning from all over the world. Best guess suggests around 80 percent of the notes are supportive of what I wrote. Sure are some nasty ones in there among the 20 percent… almost as nasty as when I have to cut off General Hospital for a tornado warning. When all this settles down I will share some of the comments. Of course, you can read the blog comments on that post too.

BACK TO BUSINESS: Cloudy and chilly weather continues around here today and tomorrow while another whopper of a winter storm moves into New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma. Seems like ground zero will be around Lubbock, where some folks in the South Plains could see well over one foot of snow. Snow is likely from this as far north as Kansas and Missouri.

This storm will dampen out and lift up toward the Great Lakes, and the result here is rain on Sunday. There will be enough warm air advection for all rain Sunday and Sunday night. Looks like the rain continues into the morning hours on Monday. Should be a good rain event with amounts of one-half to one inch. Maybe even some thunder over the far southern part of the state.

NEXT WEEK: Pretty murky. No big confidence, but the next upper wave coming out of the Southwest U.S. should generate some kind of wave in the Northwest Gulf of Mexico early in the week. The GFS wants to keep the precipitation with this feature over the southern part of the state, but that might to too far south. There will be some cold air advection on Tuesday, and with the wave in the Gulf you can’t help but wonder if somebody around the Deep South will have some wintry precipitation issues. We will menton a chance of rain or snow on Tuesday for now, and we will adjust the forecast in coming days as needed.

LONG RANGE: Boy does this pattern look cold into the first week of February. Frequent shots of very cold air can be expected, and with the Pineapple Express still on the field I think there remains plenty of winter weather possibilities for the southern U.S. over the next three weeks. Same story…. think cold and unsettled.

WEATHER PARTY: Check out the latest weather related news over on our sister site, WeatherParty.com. Remember, you can register and then you can submit stories and vote on them to determine what is published on the front page.

I will be headed out this morning to WZZK to tape a radio program with Don Dailey… should be back in the office by early afternoon and I will have the next Weather Xtreme video posted by 3:30 or so. Enjoy your Friday.
