An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

Anyone feel the Illinois earthquake this morning? It was a 5.4 quake near Mt. Carmel… we have had reports from people feeling the quake as far south as Moundville in Hale County.

THE ALABAMA WEATHER SITUATION: Our weather will remain very nice during the day today, with a partly sunny sky and a high in the upper 70s. Still looks like the primary window for showers and storms will come from about 6:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. SPC has a slight risk of severe up for the southwest corner of Alabama, mainly Washington, Mobile, and Baldwin counties, for tonight.

As we have discussed in recent days, instability values are very marginal here for severe storms tonight, with surface based CAPE values under 250 j/kg in most areas. We do note a decent amount of helicity from 0 to 1 km, so we can’t totally rule out a few severe storms, but it sure looks like the threat is rather minimal at this time. And, we are still projecting rain amounts of one-half to three-quarters of an inch.

THE WEEKEND: Showers will end early in the day tomorrow, and the sky will become partly sunny by afternoon with a high in the low 70s. Sunday looks like a wonderful day, with lots of sunshine and a high near 80.

NEXT WEEK: Looks like our warmest week so far this year with highs in the 80 to 85 degree range most days. Humidity levels will be rising, and a few isolated afternoon showers could show up Monday through Thursday, but those days at this point look generally dry with an upper air ridge overhead. No doubt the best chance of showers and storms will come at the end of the week, perhaps lasting into Saturday (April 25-26).

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.

I will have the next Weather Xtreme video posted by 3:30 this afternoon… enjoy the day!
