If you liked yesterday – and what an absolutely gorgeous day it was – you should really enjoy today which is going to be a carbon copy with afternoon highs nudging upward into the upper 70s.

Dry weather is likely to continue for us through the upcoming workweek with the next chance for rain coming on Saturday. The upper air pattern will see a ridge moving across the eastern half of the country while a substantial trough develops late in the week along the eastern range of the Rockies. That trough moves slowly our way with a surface front knocking on our door on Friday. I think the system will be slow to get here, so for now it still looks like a dry Friday. But the front arrives in the area on Saturday producing a reasonably good chance for some scattered showers. The front should move by with a clearing sky for Sunday and a much sharper cool down that we were seeing on the GFS yesterday.

Tropics have become a bit more active. The disturbed area in the Central Atlantic is still not showing much development, however, the area of clouds in the Central Caribbean has moved into an area more favorable for development with NHC upping the chances of it becoming a storm in the next 48 hours to 70 percent. It appears that it will move only a little further west before turning northward and crossing eastern Cuba and moving over portions of the Bahamas.

In the long term, the GFS has taken on a decidedly colder look for Halloween with a very deep trough over the eastern third of the country. That pattern will change to a much milder and possible wetter look by the 5th, so if the GFS is correct, the cold spell will be relatively short-lived.

I want to thank the folks at the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce for inviting me to emcee the Shelby Blues & BBQ event in Old Town Helena yesterday. Ity was a gorgeous day, the music was great, and the BBQ was spectacular. Congratulations to all the winners in the Backyard Grillers and Pro Grillers categories. James Spann will be back Monday morning with the next edition of the Weather Xtreme Video. Have a great day, and Godspeed.
