Sandy’s Impact on Alabama

| October 27, 2012 @ 3:00 pm

Very often as strong storm systems head up the East Coast of the United States, they will influence the weather of Alabama. Last night a strong cold front moved across the state, which is typical for this time of year. Usually temperatures will remain cold for 2 or 3 days and then begin to moderate. However, our cooler weather looks as though it will stay around for much of next week. The reason for this is simple. As Sandy moves up the East Coast, the counter-clockwise flow around her will continue to pull much cooler air from Canada down into the eastern United States and into Alabama. Looking at the forecast for Sandy, very persistent north winds will encompass much of the eastern half of the United States through at least Wednesday as the yellow arrows demonstrate. At least 5 days of these northerly winds for Alabama therefore keeping our cooler temperatures in place for longer. Temperature should remain below normal until at least Friday or Saturday, about that time Sandy should be exiting the Northeast United States.
