An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

Why not… lets declare the summer season open since this is Memorial Day weekend. In the weather business, we consider “meteorological summer” beginning on June 1, and in terms of astronomy, the summer solstice is June 20 at 6:59 p.m. Whatever, our warmest season of the year is upon us, and I hope you enjoy a long weekend.

THE ALABAMA WEATHER STORY: A rather moist airmass is parked over Alabama today, and we will most likely see more scattered showers and storms firing up this afternoon; the chance of any one spot getting wet over North Alabama is about one in five… otherwise the day will be partly sunny with a high in the upper 80s. It will really feel like summer.

HOLIDAY WEEKEND: We will hang on to the chance of isolated showers tomorrow, but most of the day should be dry, and by the time we get to Sunday and Monday we will simply forecast sunny and warm weather as an upper high takes over, and drier air moves in from the east. The weather stays warm through the weekend with highs in the 85 to 90 degree range.

AT THE BEACH: Scattered showers and storms are possible today and Saturday from Panama City westward to Gulf Shores, but expect about 4 to 6 hours of sunshine each day. The high along the immediate coast will be close to 80, and the sea surface temperatures are running in the upper 70s along the coast. The weather looks mostly dry Sunday and Monday with a sunny sky both days.

VOODOO LAND: The GFS hangs on to the idea of a tropical system in the Gulf of Mexico as June begins; the 00Z run takes it toward Tampa Bay. Yep, all voodoo, but the model has been very persistent on this idea.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.

Look for the next Weather Xtreme video here by 3:30 this afternoon… enjoy the day!
