Dry, Mild Weather Again Today

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

A LITTLE WARMER: Dry weather is the story again today for Alabama; expect a mix of sun and clouds with a high up in the mid to upper 70s for most spots this afternoon. To the west, we will keep an eye on a cold front moving steadily through the Southern Plains.

SHOWERS TOMORROW: That front will bring a band of showers into Alabama tomorrow. There could be a little thunder in spots as there will be a bit of surface based instability involved (surface based CAPE values of 750 j/kg or lower), but severe weather is not expected with weak dynamics. Looks like the showers will enter Northwest Alabama during the morning, then steadily moving southeast during the day. Rain amounts tomorrow should be mostly 1/2 inch or less, and the rain should exit the state by late afternoon. It will be cooler tomorrow due to the clouds and showers with a high around 70 degrees.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: Delightful weather on these two days, with sunny mild days and clear cool nights. Early morning lows will be well down in the 40s; some of the colder pockets could visit the mid to upper 30s early Thursday morning. The high Thursday will be in the low 70s, followed by mid to upper 70s Friday.

OUR WEEKEND: Moist air returns to the state; we will need to mention the risk of a few passing showers Saturday and Sunday, but the weekend won’t be a “wash-out” as the rain won’t be continuous. Maybe a touch of thunder in a few places, but just generally rain showers from time to time both days. The sky will be generally cloudy, and the high should be in the mid 70s Saturday, followed by a high close to 80 degrees Sunday as we turn warmer.

NEXT WEEK: The showery weather pattern continues Monday and Tuesday… showers could increase late Tuesday and Tuesday night with the approach of a cold front. Again, maybe some thunder in spots, but we don’t expect any severe weather issues for now. Drier air is due in here by Wednesday and Thursday… see the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. Scroll down for the show notes on the new episode we recorded last week.
