FINE SPRING AFTERNOON: With a partly sunny sky, temperatures are in the 70s across North-Central Alabama this afternoon. Nothing on the radar, and we will stay dry tonight, although clouds will increase in advance of an approaching cold front.

SHOWERS TOMORROW: A band of showers should enter Northwest Alabama tomorrow morning ahead of the front… that rain will move steadily to the southeast during the day. There could be a little thunder since some surface based instability is available, but with very limited dynamic support, we do not expect severe weather, and rain amounts should be generally less than 1/2 inch. For places like Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Anniston, and Gadsden… seems like the main window for showers will come from about 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. A good chance we won’t get out of the 60s due to the clouds and showers.

The rain will end quickly tomorrow evening as a new surge of cool, dry air moves into the state.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: We begin the day early Thursday with a chilly morning; temperatures will dip to near 40 degrees, with mid to upper 30s for the colder valleys of North and Central Alabama. And, yes, maybe a touch of light frost in those colder valleys. With sunshine in full supply we will rise to near 70 degrees. Friday will be sunny and warmer with a high in the mid to upper 70s.

OUR WEEKEND: Moist air will surge northward into Alabama, and we will mention the chance of showers both Saturday and Sunday. As we discussed this morning, the rain won’t be continuous, and the weekend won’t be a wash-out. But, if you have plans outdoors, just be aware that you will have to dodge raindrops from time to time. The showers could come at any hour Saturday and Sunday… the GFS is printing a high of 75 Saturday, and 77 Sunday. The sky will be generally cloudy with only very limited amounts of sunshine. A little thunder is possible, but severe weather shouldn’t be an issue.

NEXT WEEK: The showery weather pattern continues during the first half of the week as the moisture axis stays in place. Rain should increase Wednesday ahead of a cold front; drier and cooler air should follow by Thursday and Friday. See the Weather Xtreme video for the more details, maps, and graphics.
