Showers and Storms over Northwest Alabama

Thunderstorms continue over Northwest Alabama late tonight.

A large area of rain and storms covers the NW corner of the state from western Marion County through much of Franklin County into Colbert, Lauderdale and Lawrence Counties.

The heaviest rain and storms extended from west of Hamilton to near Russellville.

Additional storms were back over NE Mississippi.

Further south, storms were near Columbus MS and SW of Carrollton in Pickens County. The Pickens County storm is actually the strongest in the state with lots of lightning, small hail and possibly some damaging wind gusts.

The line is shifting slowly southeastward and the individual cells are moving east northeast. The activity is associated with an upper level disturbance that will be crossing the area overnight.

While significant severe weather is not anticipated, a couple of warnings are possible. The Pickens County storm is very close to being severe now.
