An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

COOL MORNING, WARM AFTERNOON: A number of communities over East and Northeast Alabama are in the 40s at daybreak… our Skywatcher at Black Creek, northeast of Gadsden… reports 42 degrees; Fort Payne is at 45.

But, despite the morning chill, we should warm into the 77-80 degree range later today with a partly sunny sky. You might see a shower or two on radar late this afternoon, but they should be few and far between.

The warm-up continues tomorrow with potential for mid 80s along with a good supply of sunshine.

MOISTURE LEVELS RISE FRIDAY: We will bring in a chance of showers Friday afternoon as moisture levels rise, and showers and a few storms will become more numerous Friday night ahead of an approaching cold front from the north, and upper energy from the west. The high res NAM shows a pretty large mass of rain/storms over Mississippi during the day Friday that seems poised to move into Alabama Friday night. The high Friday afternoon will be close to 80 degrees.

OUR WEEKEND: Saturday will be wet at times with periods of rain and possibly a thunderstorm. The rain won’t last all day, but rain could come at any hour of the day or night. Severe weather shouldn’t be an issue, and rain amounts should be generally one half inch or less.

Then, drier air arrives after midnight Saturday night, and Sunday looks totally rain-free as the sky becomes partly to mostly sunny. The high Sunday will drop into the low 70s with a fresh north breeze and very low humidity.

CLOSE TO RECORD LOWS EARLY NEXT WEEK: More very chilly air for May. We will drop well down into the 40s early Monday and Tuesday morning… right at record low temperature levels for mid-May in Alabama. No doubt some of the normally colder spots could reach the upper 30s. That rarely happens this time of the year. The sky will be sunny Monday through Wednesday with a warming trend beginning Tuesday afternoon.

VOODOO LAND: The encouraging news is that we still see no sign of any organized severe weather issues here for the next two weeks. The spring tornado season, generally speaking, has been quiet again. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
