RADAR CHECK: A classic case of hit and miss thunderstorms across Alabama this afternoon. As I write this around 3:20… heavier ones were near Montevallo, Southside, and Albertville. Heavier storms are producing lots of rain and lightning, along with small hail as they move northeast. Storms will die down late tonight as the air becomes more unstable.

SPC maintains the standard “slight risk” of severe weather for the northeast corner of Alabama… mainly for hail potential.

TOMORROW: Sure looks like most of the day will be dry with a partly sunny sky and a high in the mid 80s. A cold front will pass through tomorrow night, and ahead of the front a few isolated showers could form, but the chance of any one spot getting wet is 10 percent or less.

REFRESHING AIRMASS ON FRIDAY: The high Friday will drop into the mid 70s with a fresh north breeze and a cobalt blue sky along with lower humidity levels. We should see a low in the 46-51 degree range early Saturday morning, amazingly cool for late May in Alabama.

PICTURE PERFECT MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: Look for sunny warm days, and clear cool nights through Monday. Highs will be in the 80s, with lows in the 50s. Humidity levels will be low, and days very comfortable. Just doesn’t get much better.

AT THE BEACH: Look for mostly sunny days and clear nights from Panama City west to Gulf Shores through the first half of next week. Highs on the immediate coast will be around 80 degrees, and sea water temperatures are running in the 75-80 degree range.

ALMOST TIME: The Atlantic/Gulf of Mexico hurricane season kicks off June 1. Remember, the more significant tropical systems usually come later in the season… usually in August and September when the water is warmest.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
