MOSTLY RAIN-FREE TODAY: I guess we can’t rule out an afternoon shower somewhere around here today, but drier air has arrives in North Alabama, and the chance of any one spot getting wet is only in the 5 to 10 percent range. We have some fog in spots this morning, but once that burns off, we are projecting a good supply of sunshine today with a high around 90 degrees. Humidity levels will be lower than recent days with dewpoints dropping down into the low 60s.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Moisture levels will slowly rise. We will forecast widely scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and storms tomorrow with a partly sunny sky. Then, on Sunday, showers and storms will be more numerous. But, still the sun will be out at times. Highs over the weekend will be in the mid to upper 80s, below average for the middle of July in Alabama.

NEXT WEEK: A strong upper high/heat bubble will set up north of Alabama, centered around the Ohio River. For Alabama, we are looking at pretty typical summer weather with partly sunny, hot days and the risk of an afternoon shower or storm in spots. The upper high should have the greatest influence Tuesday and Wednesday, and showers on these days should be pretty widely spaced. Highs next week will be generally in the low 90s.

TROPICS: The remnants of Chantal are moving north into the Bahamas… some chance the system gets it’s act together again in coming days, but the main impact one way or another will be rain for the South Atlantic coast of the U.S. The rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet for now.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Not too bad… expect about 6 to 8 hours of sunshine over the weekend, and through much of next week from Panama City west to Gulf Shores with the usual risk of scattered showers and storms. Highs will be in the upper 80s along the immediate coast, with low 90s inland. Sea water temperatures remain mostly in the low 80s.
