Summer Sun Returns

| July 25, 2013 @ 3:14 pm

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today; I will be at the Hayden Pharmacy in Blount County programming weather radios through 6:30 this evening. If you need help… come see us.**

DRY FOR A CHANGE: Nothing on the radar over the northern two-thirds of Alabama today, and it is amazingly pleasant with temperatures mostly in the mid 80s. Dewpoints have dropped into the 50s over much of North Alabama, and tonight should be very pleasant with a clear sky. Some of the cooler pockets over Northeast Alabama could see a low in the upper 50s early tomorrow.

The weather should stay mostly sunny tomorrow, with only a slight risk of a shower and a high between 86 and 90.

OUR WEEKEND: We will bring in the risk of “scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms” on Saturday as a surface front approaches from the north, and moist air moves up from the south. Chance of any one spot getting wet Saturday afternoon is about one in three, and the high should be in the 84 to 88 degree range.

On Sunday, the most numerous showers should shift down into the southern half of Alabama; any showers over North Alabama should be few and far between. The sky will be partly to mostly sunny with a high in the mid to upper 80s.

NEXT WEEK: We stay rain-free Monday, but we will bring back the risk of scattered showers and storms by Tuesday and Wednesday as moist air returns. Highs next week will be generally in the upper 80s as our “cool” summer of 2013 continues.

DORIAN: The tropical storm in the Atlantic is packing sustained winds of 60 mph. Interesting to note that NCEP ensemble guidance has shifted a bit to the west today…

The system should be north of Puerto Rico early next week… most analogs suggest this one will recurve before reaching the U.S… but with the guidance westward shift we can’t rule out anything just yet. Stay tuned.

AT THE BEACH: About 6 to 8 hours of sun each day on the Central Gulf Coast through the weekend with just a few scattered showers or storms around each day. Highs on the immediate coast hold in the upper 80s.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.

I enjoyed seeing the teachers from CreekView Elementary today… they are getting ready for the new school year. And, also nice to see everybody at Metalplate Galvanizing for a severe weather safety session as well. Look for the next Weather Xtreme video here by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow…
