The area of showers and thunderstorms that moved ever so slowly SE across North Alabama during the night has decreased in size.

However, at 7:15 am, a zone of showers was still in progress from Jefferson, Shelby and Tuscaloosa County NE to places like Oneonta, Gadsden and Fort Payne. The rain was generally light to moderate.

The heaviest rain was over West Shelby County where there was also thunder and lightning in the mix. Already this morning 0.63 rain reported from Alabaster.

Movement of all of this is slowly toward the east and SE. The Birmingham Metro area will be getting a break from the rain a little later this morning.
