The Cold/Wet Early Hours of Thursday–2 am Report

| February 1, 2007 @ 2:00 am | 10 Replies

We should all be sound asleep but it is not to be. Another all-nighter, this time to watch wintry weather instead of tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. Some late notes:

* The Birmingham temperature has dropped one degree per hour in the last four hours and is now 34. It is 33 in NE Trussville, That is a concern and something we will watch closely.

* Tuscaloosa has fallen from 38 to36

* Jason Simpson is “snow-chasing” early this morning. He reports this from Cullman County:On Highway 157 in North Cullman, the highway is being sanded. Roads are bad. Some cars off the road on 157

* One inch of snow on the ground at Rogersville, NW Alabama

* Almost one inch has accumulated in Huntsville

* Memorial Parkway in Huntsville is closed

* University Drive, a 6-land street has one clear lane in both directions

* All Roads on Monte Sano completely covered

* Bridge icing on US 72 between Florence and Killen

BIRMINGHAM METRO
So far no icing problems reported. We will watch that very closely as the morning goes on. It appears that NE Alabama will be the main area to watch in the coming hours. However, the entire north third of the state from near Cullman northward is getting in foul shape.
