| February 1, 2007 @ 5:01 am | 10 Replies

Despite widespread precipitation, the weather continues to slowly improve across Alabama early on this Thursday morning.

At 5 o’clock, wintry precipitation seems to be confined mainly to Extreme NE Alabama.

The low pressure area that moved inland from the Gulf of Mexico was over SW Alabama. It was pulling much warmer air onshore from the Gulf of Mexico. Mobile has a mile 63 degrees while it is 36 in Tuscaloosa and 34 in Birmingham.

The Birmingham temperature has been steady for about five hours and it appears the Metro Area got through this event with no significant travel problems. Rain is moderate to heavy this morning over Jefferson and surrounding counties.

So far, 0.93 of an inch has fallen in Alabaster and 0.80 in West Hueytown.

Most of the snow and sleet occurred over the extreme North with as much as two inches of snow in parts of Madison and Limestone County. Some roads were closed in and around Huntsville.
