A Quiet Week For Alabama

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

Relatively dry air for summer covers Alabama this morning, meaning the chance of rain will be rather small for the next few days. Dewpoints are in the upper 50s and low 60s this morning, and they should mix down into the mid 50s later today as the air heats up. A rogue afternoon shower might pop up somewhere, but most of them should be over the southern counties of the state. The high today will be very close to 90 degrees, and the humidity will be lower than usual for a summer day.

REST OF THE WEEK: Not much change through the rest of the week, with mostly sunny days and fair nights; the chance of a shower is so small it really isn’t worth mentioning in the forecast. Afternoon highs will be in the low 90s, not far from average values for late June in Alabama.

WEEKEND PREVIEW: The GFS moves deeper moisture into Alabama from the south over the weekend, and with the approach of a surface front from the north, we will mention scattered showers and storms both Saturday and Sunday. We sure could use a little rain; we note that Birmingham has gone 8 days in a row with no measurable rain; the last day with rain in the bucket was on June 14 when 0.04 was measured. The showers over the weekend on Saturday produced only a trace at the Airport, where the records are kept.

VOODOO LAND: The GFS still shows the hottest weather in the nation out west as we get into July; our weather looks pretty routine with the risk of scattered afternoon showers or storms on an almost daily basis for the first week of July.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. We will record a few episode tonight; it should be posted by 7:30 or so.

I will be speaking this morning to a group of kids at Guiding Light Church in Birmingham… look for the next edition of the Weather Xtreme video here by 3:30 today,. Enjoy the day!
