Sprinkles This Morning, Clearing Later

Clouds and light rain developed over night as an overrunning situation developed along the Gulf Coast. The bulk of the rain stayed south of about Clanton, but even in Central Alabama we saw patchy light rain which produced very light rainfall amounts of up to a few hundredths of an inch. The approach of a surface front should sweep the clouds and rain out of the area later this afternoon.

Alabama will host the Arkansas Razorbacks this evening at Bryant-Denny Stadium; the sky will be mostly fair; about 70 degrees at kickoff, with temperatures falling into the 50s by the final whistle. Auburn is on the road; they will take on the Texas A&M Aggies in College Station, TX, this afternoon. The sky will be mostly sunny with temperatures in the 60s for most of the game.

RACE WEEKEND AT TALLADEGA: clouds and some patchy light rain or sprinkles will give way to clearing weather today with a sunny day Sunday. High today will be in the lower 70s with a high near 70 on Sunday. Look for a chilly Sunday morning low in the lower to mid 40s. Sunday should be just great for NASCAR fans.

The upper trough ushering in the cooler weather sharpens up even more on Wednesday. Another overrunning situation shapes up for Tuesday, but much of the light rain that develops should stay along the Gulf Coast. The sharpening trough on Wednesday will usher in the coldest air of the Fall so far with some potential for frost to occur on Thursday morning, maybe even patchy frost on Wednesday morning. Thursday morning is likely to be the coolest with good radiational cooling likely with clear skies as surface high pressure settles into the Southeast US. Some of the colder spots will dip into the 30s.

The cold trough moves out at the end of the week but we stay dry and cool-ish under surface high pressure. Look for afternoon highs to stick around in the 60s.

No severe weather is projected across the country by SPC and the tropics are quiet.

The long rain outlook includes an even colder looking trough around the 29th just in time for Halloween. If that trough develops as the GFS shows we could well see the first freezing weather. But the overall pattern dampens and we warm up by early November.
