Clearing Sky, Turning Much Cooler

| October 19, 2013 @ 5:40 pm

The day started off overcast with scattered showers this morning. The showers are gone and the sky continues to clear from west to east as a cold front moves across the state. A drier and much cooler air mass is moving to the Southeast and you will notice the change by tomorrow morning. Already seeing some 50s move into the Tennessee Valley as the sky has cleared there. Across Central Alabama, the sky is clearing and temperatures will be dropping. Across southern portions of the state, the clouds continue to hang around, as evident by the gray areas of clouds on the image, but even down there as the new air mass takes over, the clouds will be moving on out.

As the sky continues to clear during the overnight and the new air mass settles into the state, temperatures will be dropping rapidly. Below are the GFS forecast lows for 7AM tomorrow morning and this shows most of Central Alabama will be in the lower 40s at daybreak. This includes most locations in the areas from Highway 278 south to Highway 80. North of Highway 278, across the Tennessee Valley, lows will be in the upper 30s and just across the state line in Central Tennessee, frost advisories are in effect. After the very cool start in the morning, abundant sunshine will allow temperatures to warm to around the 70 degree mark. It will be fantastic day across the state and the weather will be perfect for the race at Talladega.
