COOL, BREEZY FALL DAY: The sky is clear across the great state of Alabama this afternoon, but the day is breezy and cool with temperatures only in the 50s over the Tennessee Valley, with low 60s around I-20/59. The wind will die down this evening, and most neighborhoods will drop into the mid to upper 30s at daybreak tomorrow, with potential for scattered frost.

Tomorrow will be another sunny day with a high in the mid 60s, but another surge of colder air blows in here Friday. We begin the day Friday with a low in the mid to upper 30s again, and the high Friday afternoon will be only in the upper 50s despite sunshine in full supply.

SATURDAY MORNING FREEZE POTENTIAL: No real change in our thinking. The low Saturday morning will be in the 27 to 34 degree range for most places, and many communities will have their first freeze of the season.

The weekend will stay dry with a good supply of sunshine Saturday and Sunday; the high Saturday will be in the low 60s, followed by upper 60s Sunday.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Clear and cold weather for the high school football games tomorrow night and Friday night; temperatures will fall into the 40s during the games, and some stadiums could be in the upper 30s by the final whistle Friday night. A good, warm jacket will be in order.

For Saturday’s Magic City Classic (Alabama State vs Alabama A&M) at Birmingham’s Legion Field (2:30p CT kickoff), the sky will be sunny with a temperature near 61 at kickoff, then falling into the 50s during the second half. Alabama hosts Tennessee at Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday afternoon (2:30p CT kickoff)… 63 degrees as the game begins with 50s during the second half.

Auburn will host Florida Atlantic Saturday evening (6:00p CT kickoff) at Jordan-Hare Stadium… the sky will be clear with a kickoff temperature near 58 degrees, falling into the 40s by the final whistle. UAB will play indoors Saturday; they are in the Alamodome to take on the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners (4:30p CT kickoff). For fans traveling to San Antonio, the day will be mostly cloudy with a chance of widely scattered showers. The high Saturday afternoon will be in the mid to upper 70s.

NEXT WEEK: While the 12Z GFS has backed off on a strong-severe storm threat for Alabama on Halloween, the ECMWF is holding steady with a very dynamic upper trough just west of the state by mid-week. Way too early to be specific, just something to watch in coming days. Remember our fall tornado season kicks off late next week. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

TROPICS: Tropical Storm Lorenzo, in the Central Atlantic, is expected to dissipate late this week far from land.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Fine fall weather through the weekend from Panama City over to Gulf Shores; sunny days, clear cool nights. Highs in the 70s, lows in the 50s. Some spots could see a low in the 40s early Saturday.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
