COLD START FOR BLACK FRIDAY SHOPPERS: Once again we begin the day well below freezing; some places have been under 32 degrees for over 12 hours. A few temperatures just before sunrise…

Black Creek (near Gadsden) 17
Gadsden 19
Valley Head 19
Russellville 19
Chelsea 22
Coker 22
Lake View 23

Birmingham’s low so far is 24; not too far from our record low for November 29, 19 in 1955.

SLOW WARMING TREND: With a sunny sky we expect a high today in the mid 50s, followed by upper 50s tomorrow and Sunday. No rain through the weekend with a good supply of sunshine each day (although a few scattered clouds show up Sunday). Our average high for the end of November is 60 degrees… the last time we reached the 60s was back on November 22.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Clear and cold for tonight’s high school football playoff games with temperatures falling through the 40s and a light east wind.

Tomorrow’s weather will be delightful for the Iron Bowl in Auburn (2:30p CT kickoff at Jordan-Hare Stadium). A clear sky; mid 50s at kickoff, low 50s by the final whistle. A light southeast wind of 5-10 mph.

NEXT WEEK: A short wave passes through Monday, but the GFS insists the air will be too dry for any really significant rain. The ECMWF is a little more aggressive, but still doesn’t show much. We will just mention a small risk of a shower for now. Then, dry and pleasant weather is the story for the rest of the week with highs rising into the 60s.

A cold front will bring the next chance of showers either Friday night or Saturday (December 6-7), but the main dynamic support should pass well north of the state, so no severe weather issues. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
