Late Morning Update

A rather miserable Saturday is in progress across Central Alabama. Lows were near freezing over North Alabama, and in the middle and upper 30s to near forty degrees across the middle of the state. The entire state is socked in with heavy clouds and although there might be a peek or two of sunshine in spots, clouds should prevail all day. A check of regional radars late this morning showed mostly quiet conditions. There were a few light showers over southeastern Alabama, southern and Central Georgia into South Carolina.

LOOKING AHEAD: Things should stay dry through mid-afternoon across the area with temperatures warming into the lower 40s over Northwest Alabama , upper 40s in the I-59 corridor and the lower 50s to the southeast. Showers will begin to develop over South central Alabama late this afternoon and then heavier showers will move into northwestern Alabama after sunset tonight. The rain will become more widespread Sunday morning and heavier by Sunday afternoon and evening. There could be some heavy rain over North Central Alabama Sunday night. Rain will continue much of the day on Monday in the I-59 corridor, with a temporary break likely Monday evening before one more round moves in for late Monday night and early Tuesday. Finally, everything should push out of here by late Tuesday afternoon and high pressure will return to control our weather for the middle part of the week.

CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY: A few breaks in the clouds were trying to work their way back into Atlanta from the east at late morning where the Auburn Tigers will take on Missouri this afternoon. So there could be a few peeks of sunshine there this afternoon, but clouds will be the rule. There were a few very light showers on radar, but no heavy precipitation through game time. Rain chances will begin to ramp up by late afternoon into the evening over in Atlanta, but again, rainfall amounts should be light. Highs outside the Georgia Dome today will be in the upper 50s today. By the end of the game, temperatures will be in the upper 40s.
