WARMER DAYS: Low temperatures are much more reasonable across Alabama this morning… generally in the mid to upper 20s. We will forecast a mix of sun and clouds today with a high in the low 50s, right at seasonal average values for early January.

TO THE WEST: Winter weather advisories continue over much of Arkansas, West Tennessee, and parts of North Mississippi where some freezing rain is falling, but that won’t impact Alabama.

TONIGHT/TOMORROW: We actually stay above freezing tonight with a low in the upper 30s tomorrow as clouds increase. Then, the day tomorrow will be mostly cloudy with a good south breeze and a high in the upper 50s. I guess we can’t totally rule out a shower in isolated spots during the day, but most places stay rain-free.

WET START TO THE WEEKEND: Still looks like a very wet period for Alabama from around midnight tomorrow night through 12:00 noon Saturday. Rain amounts of 1 inch are likely, and some spots could see more. A touch of surface based instability means there could be some thunder in a few spots, but no severe weather problems.

Drier air moves in Saturday afternoon, and the sky will clear Saturday night. We have chance of reaching the low to mid 60s Saturday afternoon, especially if the sun can break through after the rain.

Sunday looks like a very nice day, with ample sunshine and a high in the 57 to 60 degree range.

NEXT WEEK: The weather looks mostly rain-free all next week. The high will be very close to 60 degrees Monday and Tuesday. Shots of colder air arrive Wednesday, and then late in the week on Friday, but the core of the chill will stay north of Alabama thankfully with both of these.

LONG RANGE: The Arctic Oscillation (AO) wants to positive during the last ten days in January, and that should prevent extremely cold air from getting out of the source region, meaning rather pleasant temperatures around here for winter. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.
