An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

FLURRIES UP NORTH: Our Skywatcher at Black Creek, north of Gadsden in Etowah County, reports snow flurries this afternoon at his place up on Lookout Mountain at mid-afternoon. Other snow flurries are over the northeast corner of the state, otherwise the day is dry, windy, and chilly. Temperatures are only in the upper 30s over the Tennessee Valley, with 40s down our way. A west wind of 15-25 mph is making it feel colder.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Tonight will be cold. We drop into the 17-24 degree range early tomorrow with a clear sky and diminishing wind. Then, for the weekend we project a good supply of sunshine tomorrow and Sunday with a high between 47 and 52 degrees both days. A weak clipper will bring a brief period of clouds tomorrow night, but any showers should be few and far between as the air remains very dry.

NEXT WEEK: Monday promises to be the warmest day out of the next seven, with a partly sunny sky and a high in the 57-60 degree range. Then, very cold air returns on Tuesday and Wednesday. The high will drop into the mid 40s Tuesday, and the 12Z GFS is printing a low of 18 degrees for Birmingham at daybreak Wednesday. We will have a hard time getting out of the 30s Wednesday despite a sunny sky.

LONG RANGE: The GFS continues to hint at some potential for winter weather mischief the following weekend, mainly on Sunday January 26. Way too early to worry about this or to be specific. Then, some very cold air for January 27-30… some deterministic runs of the GFS hint at potential for single digit lows over the northern third of Alabama during this time frame. Take some time to watch the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.

Be looking for them on the Pepsi KIDCAM today at 5:00 and 6:00 on ABC 33/40 News! My next Weather Xtreme video will be posted here by 7:00 a.m. Monday… Brian Peters will have the video updates tomorrow and Sunday. Enjoy the weekend!
