Hard Freeze Warning Issued for Tonight

| January 23, 2014 @ 9:23 am

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Hard Freeze Warning for every county in the CWA for tonight as bitterly cold Arctic air will be felt. Every county in dark blue will have temperatures fall into the teens tonight. The warning will go into effect at midnight tonight and will last until 9AM Friday morning. The very cold air moving in will allow our overnight lows across Central Alabama to fall below 15 degrees for several hours. A range of 8-12 degrees can be expected by tomorrow morning. Remember the 4 P’s: People, Pets, Pipes, and Plants. Please check on and make any precautions to ensure their safety tonight.

Counties in the NWS Huntsville Office’s coverage area, which includes Cullman County, are not currently under the Hard Freeze Warning, but it will be very cold as single digits are expected across much of the Tennessee Valley overnight. The counties in light blue across the Tennessee Valley are under Wind Chill Advisory. As the front passes through the state today, we will begin to see the winds increase and that will send wind chill values plummeting.  A Wind Chill Advisory means wind chills will range between -5 and 5 during the overnight hours.
