Heat building over Alabama
With all the action in the tropics, we haven’t been talking too much about the heat starting to build in Alabama. It’s nothing like last year’s heat wave, but it is worth noting, especially if you or your family have to be outdoors for any significant period of time in the next few days.
Some highs around Alabama Saturday:
Birmingham 94
Muscle Shoals 99
Tuscaloosa 98
Huntsville 97
Montgomery 96
Auburn 95
Mobile 93
Anniston 92
The thing is, the airmass will change little over Alabama for 2 or 3 days, with light northerly flow, and things should slowly heat up. We could see temps warm about 2 or 3 degrees by Monday and Tuesday, placing BHM near 97 or 98, and a few spots in west Alabama at 100.
Drink plenty of water, and limit time outdoors between noon and 4 pm. Check on elderly people and be sure they have adequate air conditioning. Remember your pets, too…they need plenty of cool water and shade. For tips on lowering energy costs during these hot days, click here.
