Roads Slushy, Delay Travel ’til Noon

| February 13, 2014 @ 6:27 am

Roads are slushy and dangerous across the areas which received heavy snow last night. Don’t drive unless you absolutely have to until noon. There are still icy patches.

John Talbot reports conditions are bad on I-65 at I-45 with numerous cars spinning out and wrecking.

Big delays on I-59 NB through Brighton and Bessemer. Bessemer Police report the interstate is still iced over.

New accident at 6:45 on I-459 at US-280

Do not drive in the Birmingham Metro or in areas that still have snowcover unless you absolutely have to. Allow the snow and slush to melt.

An exception is the Tuscaloosa area, where roads are reportedly in good shape. Temperatures were warmer there.

Temperatures in Birmingham are right around freezing, but will rise nicely this morning as skies have cleared northwest of a line from Demopolis to Clanton to Pell City. The clearing line will continue to push osutheast quickly this morning.

Readings in the 40s today will take care of any leftover problems.

James will have the discussion and video shortly.
