Here are a couple of notes about temperatures in Central Alabama.

So far this month, several sites in Central Alabama have hit the 70-degree mark for highs. Here’s a quick list of the major weather observation sites and the highs so far through the 20th.

Birmingham 69 Anniston 71
Calera 72 Helena 72
Tuscaloosa 72 Albertville 64
Alex City 71 Auburn 73
Decatur 70 Demopolis 70
Dothan 79 Fort Payne 64
Gulf Shores 82 Haleyville 69
Huntsville 70 Mobile 74
Montgomery 80 Muscle Shoals 71

Hard to believe that only about a week ago we were dealing with some tremendous cold along with winter weather. And today, we are looking at the potential for severe thunderstorms with damaging wind and possibly isolated tornadoes. Our environment continues to show signs of priming the pump for severe weather with these warm temperatures as well as dew points running in the lower 60s across most of Central Alabama. And the south to southeast flow of air ahead of the approaching front is likely to keep increasing low level moisture into the evening hours.
