Showers and thunderstorms have erupted tonight in the warm and moist air across southern Mississippi. The cap is gone now as evidenced by the 6 p.m. balloon sounding from Jackson, hence the storms forming.

There is already plenty of wind shear over southern Mississippi and this will increase and spread northeastward this evening. As the storms push northeastward into western Alabama, some of them will produce damaging winds. While the main threat is damaging winds, there will likely be a couple of tornadoes as well.
