An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

DRY MONDAY: Temperatures are mostly in the 40s across North-Central Alabama at daybreak, and the sky is generally fair. The day ahead will feature a good supply of sunshine with a high in the 57 to 60 degree range in most places around here, so it won’t be as warm as yesterday, when Birmingham soared to 72 degrees.

BIG CHANGES AHEAD: Clouds will increase across the state tonight ahead of a push of very cold air, and tomorrow will be a cloudy day statewide. A few spots could see a touch of light rain or drizzle during the morning, but the more widespread rain event comes tomorrow night; rain amounts of around 1/2 inch are likely with the most widespread rain coming after midnight.

A FLAKE OR TWO? As cold Arctic air returns to Alabama early Wednesday, we have seen some evidence that the rain could briefly change to light snow or snow flurries over North Alabama. We will mention this in the forecast, but usually in situations like this there is no significant accumulation, and we don’t expect any this time.

FRIGID WEDNESDAY: The sky will clear Wednesday, but it will be a cold day with very brisk north wind of 10-20 mph, and a high only around 40 degrees. Communities north of Birmingham won’t make it out of the 30s.

The coldest morning will come early Thursday; we project lows in the 16-22 degree range. Yes, this is still winter, you know. Thursday will be a sunny day with a high around 50 degrees.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Clouds begin to increase Friday, and it looks the next short wave could bring a little light rain to state Friday afternoon, Friday night, and even during the day Saturday. However, moisture will be limited, and rain amounts should be relatively light. Just keep in mind you might have to dodge a few raindrops if you have something planned outdoors Saturday. The high Friday will be in the upper 50s, followed by low 60s Saturday.

Sunday looks generally dry at this point, although there will be cloudy periods. Sunday will be relatively mild with a high in the mid 60s.

Rain should increase again early next week ahead of a cold front, especially late Monday and Monday night. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

STORM ALERT 2014: Our annual severe weather awareness show continues this week… we will be at Calera High School tomorrow night, and Oxford High School Thursday night. The shows begin at 6:30; doors open at 5:00. Come meet the ABC 33/40 Weather Team, get some cool free stuff, see some great weather stories, and learn how to keep your family safe during the tornado season. Keep in mind the spring tornado season begins in just a few days (March, April, May). Hope to see you there.
