Brighter, Warmer Weekend Ahead

COLD AND WET: Not exactly a “Chamber of Commerce” day across the great state of Alabama. The CAD (cold air damming) effect has sent colder air into East Alabama from Georgia; Anniston reports only 37 degrees at mid-afternoon. Elsewhere, dynamic cooling from the strong upper short wave and cold pool aloft has pushed temperatures down into the low 40s as the rain falls. Keep in mind the average high for March 6 around here is 64 degrees.

Temperatures

The rain tapers off tonight, but clouds will hang tough along with some drizzle after midnight.

TOMORROW AND THE WEEKEND: Lingering clouds tomorrow morning will give way to sunshine tomorrow afternoon, and we rebound into the low 60s. Then, Saturday and Sunday will be dry and mild with a partly to mostly sunny sky both days. The high Saturday will be around 70… then Sunday’s high will drop just a few degrees back down into the mid to upper 60s.

NEXT WEEK: Highs Monday and Tuesday will be in the low to mid 70s with a pretty decent amount of sunshine both days. The 12Z GFS brings in the next short wave Tuesday night with a chance of showers, followed by colder air Wednesday as highs drop into the 50s with a cool north breeze. We will be well down in the 30s by early Thursday morning, and colder pockets could very well have a freeze. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.
