THIS AFTERNOON: The sky has become sunny over parts of West and South Alabama, and the clearing will continue this evening statewide as drier air takes over.

Where the clouds are still hanging tough, temperatures are only in the 50s.

REST OF THE WEEK: Our weather will be dry and warmer. A deep low pressure center will pass well to the north of Alabama, and the trailing front will have no real impact on our weather; the sky should be partly sunny with a high in the upper 60s. Look for sunshine in full supply Thursday and Friday; the high Thursday will be in the upper 60s, followed by mid 70s Friday.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Yes, there is a chance of rain, but nothing really heavy or widespread. A surface front will sag southward into Alabama over the weekend; a few showers are possible with the front especially Saturday night and Sunday over the northern half of Alabama, but rain amounts should be 1/4″ or less, and the rain certainly won’t be continuous. A reasonable chance that a big part of the day Saturday will be dry.

We reach the low 70s Saturday, but colder air filters into the state following the front Sunday. Some communities over far North Alabama might have a hard time getting out of the 40s Saturday, but South Alabama will enjoy highs in the low to mid 70s; it will be a pretty tight thermal gradient.

For the I-20/59 corridor (Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Anniston, Gadsden)… the high Sunday should be in the 56-60 degree range with a cloudy sky.

NEXT WEEK: Some lingering rain is possible over South Alabama Monday, but we will be dry and cool statewide Tuesday and Wednesday.

AT THE BEACH: Expect mostly sunny days and fair nights through Friday along the coast from Panama City west to Gulf Shores. Just a small risk of a shower Saturday, then showers will become more likely Sunday and Monday. Following that, the rest of next week looks generally rain-free.

The sea water temperature at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab this afternoon is a cool 58 degrees, so highs on the immediate coast will be only in the 60-63 degree range each day. But, inland, highs will reach the 70s later this week.
