DRY MAY DAYS: Not a drop of rain across the great state of Alabama on radar this afternoon, and it is a dry forecast for the rest of the week and much of the upcoming holiday weekend. An upper ridge will build into the state from the west… this shunts the storm track well to the north, and also will bring hotter afternoons. We project a high in the upper 80s tomorrow, followed by low 90s Thursday and Friday. Birmingham’s warmest temperature so far this year is 88 degrees recorded on May 5, so this will be the hottest weather so far in 2014.

Days will be mostly sunny and hazy, nights will be mostly fair.

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: A weak, “back door” front will be stalled out near the northeast corner of Alabama, so I guess you technically can’t rule out an isolated shower up there somewhere, but most Alabama communities will remain dry Saturday and Sunday. Partly to mostly sunny each day with a high around 90 degrees. Moisture levels will rise a bit Monday, so a few widely scattered afternoon showers could pop up, but that is what you expect on most summer days in Alabama. The high Monday will stay close to 90 degrees with a partly sunny sky.

No real sign of any major rain event through next week as the storm track remains well to the north of Alabama. Sure looks like our spring severe weather season is done.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Sunny days, fair nights from Panama City over to Gulf Shores through Memorial Day; just a slight risk of a shower early next week. Highs on the immediate coast will be close to 80, but inland the highs will be around 90 degrees. The sea water temperature this afternoon at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 76 degrees.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
