Severe Weather Tennessee Valley

Here is a quick round up of where the strongest storms in North Alabama were located as of 5:40 p.m.:

Lamar and Fayette Counties in West Alabama–A Significant Alert for Fayette County until 6:15.
North Marion County–It is pouring rain north of Hamilton.
Cherokee County in NE Alabama, including the Centre area.

But the most intense thunderstorms of all were near the Tennessee River. Limestone County has really been pounded. These Advisories or Warnings:

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Lawrence, Limestone and Morgan Counties.
* A Flash Flood Warning for Limestone County.
* Tornado Warning for Lincoln County over the border in Southern Tennessee.

Doppler radar indicated a storm that could produce a tornado near Fayetteville, Tennessee moving SE at 25.

In Limestone County, police report flooding along US-72 east of Athens. Additional rain of 1-2 inches are possible across Eastern Limestone County. Some of the communities affected (not a complete list):

Athens
French Mill
Capshaw
Tanner
Elkmont
Highway 72 east of Athens
I-65 from near Athens to the Tennessee border

BIRMINGHAM METROPOLITAN AREA
Nearest strong storms to the city are about 50 air miles away in Fayette County. Other storms may form as the evening progresses and some of those strong thunderstorms will be advancing toward Central Alabama.
