Merry Christmas!

| December 24, 2014 @ 3:35 pm

**We will be on a holiday schedule with just one Weather Xtreme video per day through January 2**

BRIGHTER DAYS AHEAD: The sky becomes mostly clear across the great state of Alabama tonight as dry air moves in, and tomorrow promises to be a delightful Christmas Day, with ample sunshine and a high in the low to mid 50s. Friday will be dry as well with a high around 60 degrees.

RAIN RETURNS OVER THE WEEKEND: An approaching cold front will bring clouds back into the state Saturday, and showers should begin Saturday afternoon. Then, periods of rain are likely Saturday night and Sunday as the front stalls out just northwest of the state. No severe weather, but the models are little more aggressive with rain potential, suggesting at least one inch of rain over the weekend. The high Saturday and Sunday afternoon should be close to the 60 degree mark.

NEXT WEEK: A disturbed southwest flow aloft continues, and showers remain possible Monday. Then, at mid-week, a surface low pressure center is forecast to move through the Southeast U.S. with more rain. The high resolution parallel GFS model suggests this might be a big snow producer for places like Memphis and Little Rock… as very cold Arctic air seeps into the region.

I can promise you this forecast will change, but for now we will just mention rain for Alabama on Wednesday, followed by a change to much colder air on New Year’s Day. But, for now it looks like that cold snap won’t last too long…
