DREARY WINTER DAY: As expected, clouds are hanging tough over all of Alabama this afternoon; we had some drizzle this morning in a few spots. Temperatures are generally in the low 40s for places like Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Anniston, and Gadsden, and north of Birmingham readings are in the 30s.

The weather won’t change much tomorrow; another mostly cloudy day, although some computer model guidance has hinted the sun might break out for a brief time or two. And, once again, we won’t get out of the 40s.

SOME LIGHT RAIN THURSDAY? The 12Z model runs, especially the NAM, have introduced the potential of some light rain Thursday over North/Central Alabama, and we will go ahead and insert that potential into the forecast. The heaviest and most widespread rain Thursday will come over the southern quarter of Alabama, but a little light rain is possible as far north U.S. 278 (Hamilton to Cullman to Gadsden). Otherwise, same ole routine with a cloudy sky and a high in the mid to upper 40s.

BRIGHTER AND WARMER: Finally, the sun returns in full force Friday with a high up in the mid 50s. And, Saturday looks like a delightful day to kick off the weekend with a high in the low 60s along with a sunny sky. The weather on Sunday will stay dry, but a north breeze will bring in cooler air, and the high will drop back into the mid 50s with a partly sunny sky.

NEXT WEEK: Looks like our weather will be dry and seasonal Monday through Wednesday with highs mostly in the 50s and lows in the 30s; a chance of rain returns on Thursday (January 22), but at this point it doesn’t look like a big event. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
