Alabama 811 | Know What's Below.

7 p.m. Update

Here is an update on the Alabama Weather Situation tonight.

No change in our forecast thinking tonight. All indications are that the surface low that will bring a mix of precipitation to Alabama is going to take a more northerly track which will give us warmer temperature profiles and push the threat of wintry precipitation further to the north.

Temperatures are at or below freezing over the Tennessee Valley with upper 30s to lower 40s in the I-20 corridor, except for middle 30s near Anniston. Clouds are thickening quickly, which will help slow the temperature fall overnight. The coldest temperatures should occur just after midnight and be something like this:

Temperatures will slowly rise during the remainder of the night.

The onset of the precipitation now looks like it will be delayed. This is accumulated precipitation type by 6 a.m. You can see no precipitation at that time over North Alabama.

By noon, some light freezing rain will have occurred over the Tennessee Valley, with most of the area getting a general rain by that time.

High temperatures should warm into the 40s.

Most of Central Alabama will see around one inch of rain by tomorrow evening.

There will be a brief changeover to snow tomorrow night, but no accumulations are expected.

With temperatures dropping into the middle and upper 20s right behind the precip tomorrow night, residual moisture could freeze on roads tomorrow night perhaps causing some slicks spots for the Tuesday morning commute.

No winter weather advisories for Central Alabama at this time, but don’t let your guard down. There could be surprises in the morning if anything changes temperature wise or if the precip arrives earlier. So check the latest conditions first thing tomorrow morning before heading out.
