Drier Days Ahead

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

What a remarkable August day yesterday. An all-day rain; maximum temperatures in the 70s. Scroll down for rain totals from J.B… he will probably update that list one more time later this morning.

RIGHT NOW: A tornado watch is up for Southeast Alabama, and parts of South Georgia and North Florida. All of these storms will move out of Alabama within the next few hours, and North Alabama will be in drier air today with a clearing sky and the return of sunshine.

THE DAYS AHEAD: Models continue to trend drier. In fact, the 00Z GFS suggests no significant rain for most of the state through Monday of next week, and accordingly we will begin to scale back, and maybe eliminate the chance of showers over the weekend as the deeper moisture axis remains west of here. The weather will also be warmer; we should rise into the mid 80s today, and then be close to 90 tomorrow, Friday, and over the weekend.

TROPICS: Still no sign of serious organization with our twins out in the Central Atlantic. The GFDL, and most other tropical models, take the lead wave to the Bahamas by Monday of next week as a strong tropical storm or hurricane. From there, the system could threaten South Florida or the Florida Keys, followed by entry into the Gulf of Mexico. Still way too early to have any confidence with this one since it is still in the development stage. We will be waiting and watching.

VOODOO LAND: The 00Z has a hurricane on the East Coast of Florida on August 26… watch the Weather Xtreme video to see what happens. This, of course, is mostly likely bogus and will disappear on the next run, but that kind of thing will be possible in coming weeks.

TWITTER: Don’t forget, you can follow our news and weather updates from ABC 33/40 on Twitter here. And, my personal Twitter feed is here if you want to keep up with my adventures in life. Twitter is a short messaging service you can receive via the web, cell phone, or IM.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.

Look for the next Weather Xtreme video here by 3:30 this afternoon!
